Permanent resident Vs. Citizen

Does anyone know if the citizen requirement is "written in stone" or is it just a requirement to make sure the candidate does not have a language problem and/ or not enough background in the states ?
I have lived in the states for over 25 years (since 4th grade) and I am 3 years away from my citizenship. I am a permanent resident (Green Card), and since I have lived here most of my life a background check can be performed all the way to my childhood if need be.

If the citizen requirement is a must, is it the same for correction officers ? if so do I have any other options/ positions in Metro to do my 3 years until I get my citizenship ?

Thank you for your time and help.

All commissioned officer positions (police/corrections) require a person to be a US citizen. There is no "give" in this regard.

There are a variety of civilian positions that do not require a person to be a US citizen. You would need to check the job positions that you are interested in to see if you qualify. You can do this at www.LVMPD.com and search under the "employment" tab.

Does this mean to apply you have to be a citzen or you have to be a citzen by officer appointment. I'm asking because I have submitted my application to be a US citzen and was told it should be a couple of months before I Am.
