Equipment Posted Thursday, October 26, 2006 at 3:22 PM Aside from the belt, holster, and magazine case, are there any other items (handcuff case, baton holster, etc.) that need to be purchased before the Academy? |

You will be issued a complete belt that will include a handcuff case and a baton with holder. Later in the academy, you will be issued pepper spray with a holder, as well as a TASER with a holster. There are a few items you will need to buy, but you will be briefed on what these items are when you attend the mandatory PreAcademy (first 2 weeks of academy). These items include: a flashlight, running shoes, boots, etc. Academy SGT. |

Good evening Academy Sgt, I had a couple of quick questions relating to this topic that I just wanted to clarify if you don’t mind. I was originally going to write and ask if you could recommend a certain size/brand flashlight that we should purchase. I searched on here first and found that you had previously said that there was not a specific size, however, that you would recommend a rechargeable flashlight that fits on the belt. Is there a certain model or anything specific that we should look for (aside from being rechargeable)? Is there a (size) range that we would know would definitely fit on the belt? Also, I noticed "basket-weave handcuff case" in the packet under the section that reads "....required to purchase upon entering the Academy." I just wanted to clarify from reading your post above if we had to purchase a handcuff case or if one will come with the duty belt? I guess it would be wise to purchase an additional handcuff case just to have. However, I just wanted to clarify if we were required to purchase one or if one came with the duty belt. Lastly, regarding your post above, you mention that we will briefed on these items during the pre-academy. I was under the impression that we should have these items purchased prior to the academy. I guess I should wait until briefed during the pre-academy, and then purchase the items that week, for the start of the academy? Is that correct? I just wanted to make sure that we were not supposed to have these items on May 20th. Thanks in advance and your responses on this forum have been extremely helpful. |

I just received my packet telling me what to buy, and as I was reading some of the other posts I noticed that you said some of these things didn't need to be purchased until after briefed in the "Pre" Academy. My packet says that these should be purchased before. Which is it? Thank You Jayson |
