NEW TESTING FORMAT
Posted Friday, October 26, 2007 at 9:22 AM

Hello,
I went throught the tresing process a year ago and was ineligable for a driving history problem. Iwas told I can take the test again in Jan which I plan on doing. My question in about the PHQ "Screener" diectly after the written test. I do not remember that last time I tested, and wonder what that is...just someone who goes over the PHQ with you, must it be filled out by you prior to the meeting? Secondly I noticed that the fitness test is on the same day as the written; last year for the written I dressed in nice pants, shirt and tie, as I though that was approriate for a written exam, is the fitness test directly following the written; and if yes I assume I should arrive tot he written exam dressed ready for the physical test? And Last is the physical test still, Bend/twist, Grip test, sit-ups, push-ups and mile run, or has that format changed as well. I know I asked alot, and I apreciate your time.

The "Mini PHQ" is a new step in the process. PHQ stands for Personal History Questionnaire. It is an abbreviated version of the more extensive form you complete later. It is a pass/fail test. You do not need to fill out anything prior to the test. It is a written test taken on a scan-tron form and will be scored immediately. The function is to identify the people who have items in their background or psychological history that would automatically disqualify them later in the process. This makes it so the people who would not pass the background do not waste their or our time taking the physical fitness test and the rest of the hiring process.

I am looking into what the policy is if you fail the Mini-PHQ- how long you have to wait to retest, or if you can.

There will still be an extensive background investigation for the candidates that continue through the hiring process. Just because you pass the Mini-PHQ does not mean that you will make it through the background investigation.

The written and physical fitness tests will be taken on the same day from here on out.

You can wear casual attire or workout clothing to the written portion of the testing. There will be plenty of time and a place to change between the written and physical testing if you prefer not to wear workout clothing to the written portion.

The clothing must not have any derogatory or inappropriate sayings, or be too revealing. For the physical fitness test wear a short sleeve shirt (no tank-tops). Shorts or sweat pants and running shoes (tennis shoes) should be worn. Candidates are encouraged to bring their own water to the test.

The physical test has all the items that you listed and also a 100 yard dash. You can find more info here: Fitness Testing Standards

Please feel free to ask as many questions as you need. We are just starting out with the bulletin board format. Any question asked and answered here is available for others who were probably wondering the same thing.
